Job summary

Spotify seeks a Staff Data Engineer for the Subscriptions User Understanding team to shape the long-term data platform and scale to one billion users. You will design scalable batch and streaming data systems and partner with product, engineering, data science, analytics, and platform teams to deliver durable data solutions.

You will mentor senior engineers, drive data quality, governance, and operational excellence across squads while balancing performance and cost in a global environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Strong track record delivering reliable distributed pipelines (Scio, BigQuery, Dataflow, GCS).
• Excellent communication and mentoring abilities across engineering, product, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Define the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data systems powering analytics, ML, and subscriber experiences.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices for data quality, governance, observability, reliability, and operations.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams to translate business challenges into durable data solutions.
