Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to define the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain and to design scalable batch and streaming data platforms that power analytics, experimentation, and subscriber experiences.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Deep experience building reliable distributed data pipelines using Scio, BigQuery, Dataflow, GCS, SQL, Python or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of modern data modeling, metadata management, governance, and data quality practices.
• Ability to balance immediate business needs with long-term architectural sustainability.
• Influence technical direction through communication, judgment, and collaboration.

• Design data models and platform architecture to support growth and maintainability.
• Simplify complex systems and reduce technical debt across the data ecosystem.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and knowledge sharing.
