Job summary

Sainsbury's Tech is seeking a Staff Engineer – Data Engineering to shape the technical direction of our data platforms across enterprise-scale systems. You will partner with Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers and product teams to deliver scalable, secure data solutions spanning batch, streaming and event-driven architectures.

You'll lead across multiple squads, drive reusable patterns, and raise engineering standards while mentoring engineers.

Qualifications

Experience designing, building and operating modern data platforms at scale.
Hands-on with batch, streaming and event-driven architectures (Kafka).
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and data services.

Responsibilities

Lead design and implementation of scalable data platforms and pipelines.
Define technical direction across multiple teams to ensure maintainability.
Drive architecture reviews and establish engineering standards for data ingestion, transformation and governance.
Coach engineers through reviews, pairing and code reviews to raise standards.
Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, Governance and BI teams to deliver coherent data solutions.
Ensure data governance, GDPR and PII considerations are embedded in designs from the outset.
