Job summary

Tempcover is hiring a Staff Data Engineer to join the Data & Analytics team in London. You’ll build a cloud-based data platform on Google BigQuery, Dagster+ and dbt, delivering end-to-end data pipelines and scalable models for AI-driven insights.

Hybrid work with 2 days in the Tower Bridge office, and the option to base in Fleet. You’ll collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to design reliable data solutions and mentor junior engineers in a fast-paced InsureTech environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced SQL including complex queries, partitioning and cost-aware optimization.
• Experience with modern orchestration/ELT tooling (Dagster and dbt preferred).
• Strong Python for data engineering tasks.
• Solid understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes and dimensional modelling.
• Experience designing data models and documentation usable by AI/LLM analytics tools.
• Knowledge of cloud data infrastructure (GCP preferred, Azure/AWS considered).
• Ability to work independently and with analysts/business stakeholders.
• Hands-on CI/CD for data code deployment across environments.
• Git/DevOps experience for version control and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain ELT pipelines on BigQuery using dbt and Dagster+ with testing and idempotency.
• Create accurate, performant data models to support analytics.
• Propose and implement improvements to the data platform.
• Lead performance monitoring and tuning efforts.
• Implement data contracts, observability and lineage for data quality.
• Define and champion engineering standards (CI/CD, IaC, testing).
• Provide high availability of data to the wider business.
• Collaborate with MI, Marketing, Product and Pricing teams to translate data needs into solutions.
• Mentor junior data engineers and provide technical oversight.
