Aviy is seeking a senior backend engineer to own payments infrastructure in London. You will design and deliver payment integrations across providers, and own the systems that prove every transaction is accounted for.
With 8+ years in backend engineering and a strong payments background, you will champion idempotency, retries, and clear discrepancy communication with finance. This role combines autonomy with leadership in a hybrid, London-based team.
Payments are the part of Aviy that cannot be wrong. When one of our customers invoices their client, that money is their income, often their rent. \"It usually works\" is not a passing grade here, and that constraint is what makes the engineering interesting rather than tedious.
You would lead this area: how payments are taken, how we prove every transaction is accounted for, and how money reaches our customers on the schedule they expect.
It is senior work with a lot of autonomy, and it comes with the responsibility that implies.
The work splits roughly into keeping money moving and proving that it did:
Eight or more years in backend engineering, several of them on payments or something else where correctness beats throughput.
We care about instinct here: whether you reach for idempotency without being asked, whether you think about what happens on the third retry, whether you can explain a discrepancy to someone in finance without losing the detail.
This role is based in London, with most people in two or three days a week. The rest of the company is remote, so you will not be the only person on a video call — but this particular job is better done in a room with other people, and we would rather say that plainly than discover it six months in.
We sponsor visas for it. Apply from any country: if you are the person we want, we will sponsor your work visa and cover the move — the application fees, the legal costs, and the relocation itself. Our People team runs the process with you rather than handing you a form and wishing you luck.
£95,000–£130,000 a year, reviewed every year against the market for where you live, plus share options — everyone here owns a piece of the company.
Flexible hours, a budget for whatever laptop and desk you actually want, an annual learning budget, generous paid time off that we check people take, and paid parental leave for every parent however you become one.
