Job summary

The Economist Group, a global media and information-services company, seeks a Staff Android Engineer to lead our mobile Android platform. You will define architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product and design to deliver high-quality features.

Qualifications

• Experience in Android development with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Proven track record of designing scalable mobile architecture.
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Experience with CI/CD and mobile observability practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and evolution of Android architecture, frameworks, and performance-critical systems across the app.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and platform leads to define technical strategy and ensure high-quality feature delivery.
• Set coding standards and best practices across Android teams, and guide others through code reviews, architecture discussions, and design documentation.
• Identify cross-cutting concerns and lead platform-wide initiatives (e.g., performance optimization, modularization, observability, or test infrastructure).
• Act as a technical mentor for engineers across levels, helping grow both technical and leadership capabilities within the team.
• Foster cross-platform and cross-squad collaboration by running design reviews and improving alignment with iOS and backend counterparts.
