Role Overview

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, and optimization of customer network environments, with a strong focus on network security and high availability. You will work closely with international teams to support operations across Europe, with regular travel to our European headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with Palo Alto, Cisco, and WatchGuard technologies, and ideally have a strong understanding of networking in the lottery or gaming sector. Your role will be critical in ensuring our customers network infrastructure supports our operational demands, regulatory requirements, and security policies.

Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and maintain robust and secure network infrastructure across multiple sites.

Configure and manage firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco), routers and switches (HPE, Cisco).

Support and maintain Retail WAN networks using MPLS technology.

Work closely with Security Operations (SecOps) team to ensure vulnerability management is maintained.

• Provide technical leadership in network-related projects, including capacity planning, upgrades, and security enhancements.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement proactive solutions to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors to support product and platform deployments.
• Maintain comprehensive network documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards relevant to the lottery industry.
• Support incident response and root cause analysis in case of network or security breaches.
• Participate in on-call support rotation and provide mentorship to junior network staff.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ Years of experience in a senior network engineering role, preferably in the lottery or regulated gaming industry.
• HPE network switches
• Watchguard Firebox firewalls - Nice to Have
• VMware vSphere
• Extensive understanding of BGP
• Extensive understanding of Multicast and PIM (Protocol-Independent Multicast)
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and security standards applicable to the lottery/gaming industry.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyse complex network issues across hybrid environments.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work across cultures and international teams.

Desirable Qualifications

• Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
• WatchGuard Certified System Professional
• Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and SD-WAN technologies.
• Knowledge of scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Ansible) for network tasks.

Additional Information

• Primarily based at our Watford office, with regular travel to Vienna, Austria required (approx. 1 week per quarter).
• Ad-hoc travel to UK datacenters (Uxbridge and Leeds) may be required.
• Must have the right to work in the UK and ability to travel within the EU.
• DBS Security Checks will be undertaken for this position.
