Job summary

Candour is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Developer to own a critical SQL Server environment and help design, develop, and optimise database solutions in a collaborative tech team in Stoke-on-Trent. You will influence technical direction, improve performance, and mentor others.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Microsoft SQL Server development experience.
• Proficient in T-SQL and SQL Server 2019+.
• Experience designing relational databases and data models.
• Experience with ETL processes and SSIS.
• Strong performance tuning and query execution plans.
• Experience with backups, recovery, and security.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and optimisation of SQL Server databases.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior SQL Developer to take ownership of a critical SQL Server environment and play a key role in designing, developing, and optimising database solutions.

This is an opportunity for a strong SQL professional to influence technical direction, improve database performance, support business-critical systems, and mentor other developers. All the while, working within a collaborative technology team and playing a key role in improving SQL capability across the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of SQL Server database solutions
• Develop and optimise complex T-SQL including stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, including query optimisation, blocking, and deadlocks
• Support database security, backups, recovery, and high availability solutions
• Work with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver effective technical solutions
• Provide technical guidance and mentor junior developers

Requirements

• 5+ years' experience with Microsoft SQL Server development
• Strong T-SQL skills and experience with SQL Server 2019+
• Experience designing relational databases and data models
• Background working with high-volume transactional databases
• Experience with ETL processes (SSIS or similar)
• Strong knowledge of SQL performance tuning and execution plans
• Experience with SQL Server Agent, backups, disaster recovery, and security
• Exposure to Azure SQL Database / Azure SQL Managed Instance is desirable
