Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant SQL Database Administration experience.
  • Experience in 24/7 mission-critical SQL Server environments.
  • Backing up, restoring and DR testing to validate recoverability.
  • Performance tuning for large transactional DBs and workloads.
  • Experience with ITIL change and incident processes.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support SQL Server databases including RM System.
  • Ensure performance, stability and capacity to meet 24/7 policing needs.
  • Enforce security, encryption and access controls per policy.
  • Ensure data governance, retention and audit compliance.
  • Design and test high availability and DR solutions.
  • Support system integrations with internal and national systems.
  • Manage changes through CAB and formal change control.
  • Maintain runbooks, logs and audit evidence.

SQL Database Administrator (DBA)

Salary: Grade H (£50,949.00 - £57,186.00)

The main purpose of the role is to maintain and manage the security, integrity, recoverability, capacity and availability of Warwickshire Police’s databases in accordance with standards and policies.

Main Responsibilities
  • Administer, configure, control, monitor and support SQL Server databases including (but not limited to) Warwickshire Police’s Records Management System.
  • Ensure database performance, stability, and capacity meet 24/7 operational policing demands. Use database management system software and tools to analyse and investigate database problems, resolving these within agreed SLAs.
  • Implement and enforce database security, access controls, and encryption in line with Warwickshire Police standards and policies
  • Ensure compliance with policing data governance, retention, and audit requirements.
  • Design, maintain, and test high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Support secure system integrations with internal and national systems.
  • Deliver database changes through formal change control and CAB processes.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and audit evidence.
  • Provide on-call and major incident DBA support for live operational systems.
  • Support projects and change requiring DBA input.
  • To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
Special Conditions

Requirement to participate in on call rota.

Regular travel throughout Warwickshire.

Person Specification
Knowledge
  • Microsoft SQL Server architecture (2019) and administration.
  • Database security controls including encryption, auditing, and access control
  • Data lifecycle management including retention, archiving and data rehydration
  • Holds or possesses demonstratable knowledge of ITIL Foundation Level.
  • Holds or possesses demonstratable knowledge of typical SQL DBA tooling e.g. TempDB
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn
  • Data protection legislation (UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018).
  • OFFICIAL–SENSITIVE data handling requirements and MOPI
  • ISO standards and principles
Experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Supporting business-critical SQL Server systems in a 24/7 environment.
  • Managing backup, restore, and disaster recovery testing.
  • Performance tuning of large, high-volume transactional databases.
  • Working within formal ITIL change and incident management.
  • Supporting systems subject to regulatory, legal, or forensic audit.
