Job summary

Cover People is seeking a Sports Coach / Teaching Assistant to support KS3 and KS4 in a large, welcoming secondary alternative education provision in the Bury area. The role focuses on PE, sport, and wellbeing, with opportunities for flexible, long-term placements.

The ideal candidate will combine sport passion with patience, empathy, and adaptability to support vulnerable young people on their learning journey. DBS, right to work, and references are required.

Qualifications

• CV with full history from education to present.
• Enhanced DBS via Update Service (or willing to apply).
• Right to work in the UK.
• Minimum of 2 professional references, covering the last 2 years.
• Overseas police certificate (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• Support students in PE lessons, small groups, and 1:1 settings to encourage activity and wellbeing.
• Assist with classroom tasks and promote positive behaviour.
• Help build confidence through sport and personalised support.
• Potentially support in other lessons as required.

About the Role - Sports Coach / TA

As a Sports Assistant / Teaching Assistant, you'll support students in both KS3 and KS4 in PE lessons, small groups, and one-to-one settings to encourage physical activity, engagement, and wellbeing. You'll assist with classroom tasks, promote positive behaviour, and help build confidence through sport and personalised support. You may be asked to support in other lessons as and when required.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone passionate about sport and education, with experience supporting young people both in PE and classroom settings. Patience, empathy, and adaptability are key, along with a commitment to helping students develop physically and academically.

Requirements

• A CV with full history from your education until present.
• A minimum of 3 months' verifiable experience supporting young people.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Valid photo ID and proof of address.
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one).
• Minimum of 2 professional references, covering the last 2 years.
• A supportive and consistent attitude, with a genuine passion for working with vulnerable young people.
