Job summary

The University of Nottingham Sport is recruiting for a permanent part-time Front of House Assistant at the David Ross Sports Village. You will handle bookings, cash handling, and customer enquiries, ensuring a first-class visitor experience.

Hours are 24.5 per week across specific shifts: Mon 6.15am-2.30pm, Tue 1.15pm-9.30pm, Thu 3pm-8.30pm. Prior front-of-house experience and strong communication are essential; training and staff development are provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer-focused front-of-house role.
  • Proven cash handling and reconciliation skills.
  • Experience with computer booking systems desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Take bookings by telephone or in person and manage reception duties.
  • Collect and reconcile monies on duty and handle cash securely.
  • Answer enquiries, direct users, and issue membership or hire equipment as needed.
  • Check user validity and manage lost property.
  • Assist with membership queries and issue membership cards.

The University of Nottingham Sport is currently undergoing an ambitious change and investment programme to further support our vision to deliver an outstanding student sporting offer and establish the University as the first choice for students wishing to combine a top-quality education with an outstanding sporting experience.

There is one permanent part-time position of 24.5 hours per week, currently available at the David Ross Sports Village, as part of the front house team. The working hours for the post are shown below. These are the exact working hours for the post each week.

Monday 6.15am-2.30pm

Tuesday 1.15pm-9.30pm

Thursday 3pm-8.30pm

Roles and responsibilities will include taking bookings by telephone or in person, collection and reconciliation of monies on reception whilst on duty, dealing with enquiries, directing users, issuing hire equipment, dealing with membership enquiries and issuing membership cards. Checking the validity of users and dealing with lost property.

Candidates should have an excellent telephone manner and have the ability to work calmly and professionally when under pressure. Previous experience of working in a similar customer-focused role is essential, together with evidence of managing cash-handling/reconciliation processes. Previous experience working with computer-booking systems would be desirable.

The role is key to ensuring a first class and seamless experience for our student, staff, alumni and public members. Excellent communication and customer care skills, together with a pro-active approach to tasks and attention to detail are therefore essential.
