Speech and Language Therapy – Business Support Assistant

The community adult speech and language therapy service in Swindon is seeking an experienced, highly motivated administrator to join their friendly and dynamic team. This rewarding role involves some direct contact with patients and their families, alongside administrative duties.

The role of a Speech and Language Therapy – Business Support Assistant includes providing high-quality administrative, data input, and secretarial support to assist patient care, clinical governance, and the clinical processes of the community adult speech and language therapy (SLT) team. The post may also involve assisting with clinical duties, such as implementing treatment programs and delivering AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain regular liaison with referring agents, healthcare professionals, multidisciplinary teams, carers, and relatives to ensure seamless care and build professional relationships.
  • Handle communication sensitively, adhering to data protection and information governance policies.
  • Manage referrals, maintain accurate records, respond to queries, and support the daily operations of the SLT service.
  • Prepare patient materials, photocopy, file, organise meetings and training sessions, and provide secretarial support to the SLT Manager.
  • Assist SLTs during assessments and treatment sessions, prepare and manage AAC equipment, liaise with suppliers, and ensure equipment is well-maintained and stocked.
  • Support service improvement initiatives, update patient information, manage shared mailboxes, document meetings, and support new staff induction.
  • Participate in team meetings, incident reporting, mandatory training, and therapy outcome monitoring.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information professionally, and interact with individuals with challenging behaviours with a calm and professional approach.
The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, with administrative experience, preferably in healthcare.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with using various devices.
  • Eager to learn specialist communication aids, software, and apps.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Effective communicator, adaptable for individuals with speech or language difficulties.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare, with knowledge of protection procedures.
  • Organised, adaptable, capable of prioritising tasks, and able to seek support when needed.
  • Works well independently and in a team, demonstrating integrity and openness.
  • Flexible to work across different Trust services as required.
