Main Roles and Responsibilities
  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive and coordinated speech and language therapy services in various settings including clinics, schools, and children’s centres, enhancing the health, learning potential, and quality of life of children.
  • Manage a caseload of individuals (ages 0-25) with diverse needs, including neurological, coordination, sensory processing, and behavioral issues, maintaining clinical records.
  • Develop and participate in creating product lines and services such as training, therapy programmes, and professional development.
1. Clinical – Assessment and Treatment Planning
  • Carry and prioritize a caseload and ongoing tasks.
  • Conduct assessments and treatments in appropriate settings.
  • Perform specialist assessments using advanced clinical reasoning.
  • Use assessment tools to evaluate functions like self-care, development, sensory processing, and motor skills.
  • Analyze results to determine conditions and set goals.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, re-evaluate, and discharge when appropriate.
2. Clinical – Interventions and Treatments
  • Plan and execute child-centered interventions.
  • Re-evaluate and adapt treatment plans.
  • Choose appropriate treatment approaches based on evidence-based practices.
  • Monitor intervention effectiveness.
3. Clinical – Analytical / Judgmental Skills
  • Interpret complex assessment results for accurate judgment and diagnosis support.
  • Set OT goals within care plans.
  • Refer to other professionals when needed.
4. Clinical – Communication
  • Support and advise parents, carers, and schools, adjusting communication for understanding.
  • Use non-verbal and augmentative communication as needed.
  • Handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Work empathetically with families.
  • Communicate effectively with team and other agencies.
  • Attend and organize meetings for care planning and transitions.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records.
5. Human resources, including personnel and people development
  • Adhere to professional ethics and standards.
  • Be accountable for professional work.
  • Reflect on practice through supervision and appraisal.
  • Manage projects, develop resources, and provide training.
6. Health, safety, and security
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Conduct risk assessments.
  • Ensure safe use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Report issues and arrange repairs.
7. Policy and Service Improvement/Development
  • Participate in planning and policy development.
  • Contribute to clinical audits.
