Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive speech and language therapy services in various settings to improve or maintain children's health, function, learning, independence, and quality of life.
- Manage a caseload of individuals (usually aged 0-25 years) with diverse needs and disabilities, including neurological, coordination, sensory processing, attention, and behavioral issues, maintaining clinical records.
- Develop and participate in creating product lines and services, including training, therapy programs, and professional development.
1. Clinical – Assessment and Treatment Planning
- Prioritize and carry a caseload and ongoing tasks.
- Conduct assessments and treatments in appropriate settings.
- Perform specialist assessments using advanced clinical reasoning.
- Assess function concerning self-care, development, physical, sensory, and motor skills.
- Interpret assessment results to determine individual conditions and goals.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including therapy sessions and programs.
- Re-evaluate and adapt treatment programs as needed and discharge when appropriate.
2. Clinical – Interventions and Treatments
- Plan and implement child-centered interventions.
- Re-evaluate and adapt treatments based on needs and outcomes.
- Select appropriate treatment approaches based on evidence-based practice.
- Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
3. Clinical – Analytical / Judgmental Skills
- Analyze and interpret assessment results for accurate judgment and diagnosis support.
- Identify goals and appropriate treatment approaches.
- Make referrals to other professionals when necessary.
4. Clinical – Communication
- Provide support and advice to parents, carers, and schools.
- Adjust communication for age and comprehension levels, using aids as necessary.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively.
- Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity.
- Work with parents dealing with emotional responses.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other agencies.
- Attend and organize meetings for planning and discharge.
- Handle exposure to children with various needs appropriately.
