Main Roles and Responsibilities
- Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive speech and language therapy services in various settings including clinics, schools, and children’s centres to improve or maintain children’s health, function, learning potential, independence, and quality of life.
- Manage a caseload of individuals (ages 0-25) with diverse needs and disabilities, including neurological, coordination, sensory processing, and behavioral issues, maintaining clinical records.
- Develop and participate in creating products and services such as training, therapy programs, and professional development activities.
1. Clinical – Assessment and Treatment Planning
- Prioritize and manage a caseload and ongoing tasks.
- Conduct assessments and treatments in appropriate settings.
- Perform specialist assessments for children with complex presentations.
- Use assessment tools to evaluate functions related to self-care, development, and motor skills.
- Analyze results to determine conditions and set goals.
- Create and implement treatment plans, re-evaluating as needed.
2. Clinical – Interventions and Treatments
- Plan and deliver child-centered interventions.
- Re-evaluate and adapt treatment programs.
- Select appropriate evidence-based approaches.
- Monitor intervention effectiveness.
3. Clinical – Analytical / Judgmental Skills
- Interpret assessment results to inform diagnoses and care plans.
- Set OT goals within overall care plans.
- Make referrals as necessary.
4. Clinical – Communication
- Support and advise parents, carers, and schools.
- Adjust communication for different audiences and use augmentative communication aids.
- Handle sensitive information with empathy.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other agencies.
- Attend and organize meetings, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
5. Human resources, including personnel and people development
- Adhere to professional codes and standards.
- Participate in supervision, appraisal, and training.
- Lead projects and develop resources.
6. Health, safety, and security
- Maintain a safe environment and conduct risk assessments.
- Ensure safe use of equipment and report issues.
7. Policy and Service Improvement/Development
- Contribute to planning and policy development.
- Participate in clinical audits and resource planning.
