Job summary

Cygnet Lodge Kewstoke is seeking a fully GMC registered Specialty Doctor to provide psychiatric care on a 12-bed male rehabilitation unit. The role offers rotation between wards for varied clinical exposure under Consultant supervision.

The post supports ongoing professional development within a multidisciplinary team, with a broad range of benefits and a competitive salary up to £90,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
• Experienced in General Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis.
• Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledgeable of mental health legislation and codes of practice.
• Excellent clinical decision making with sound judgement and risk management.
• Strong communication skills to interview, assess and document patients clearly.
• Committed to ongoing professional development.
• Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act and RC Psychiatrists membership.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist.
• Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations.
• Participate in weekly ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Attend Care Programme Approach and Section 117 meetings and tribunals.
• Provide up-to-date clinical information at meetings and ensure medical decisions are implemented.
• Audit medical services and ensure GMC and professional guidelines compliance.
• Uphold policies and contribute to service governance and development.
• Participate in the on‑call rota as needed.

Are you an outstanding Specialty Doctor looking for your next challenge in psychiatry – and a competitive salary?

We are seeking an experienced full-time Specialty Doctor who will work at Cygnet Lodge Kewstoke and provide psychiatric care on our 12 bed high support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service for men who have enduring mental illness and may have been detained under the Mental Health Act.

At Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke we are looking to rotate Specialty Doctors between wards so there is an opportunity to gain a varied clinical exposure as well as a chance to work with different consultants.

Cygnet Lodge Kewstoke provides a high quality care through a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach in a community facing environment. We focus on successful discharge planning from the moment individuals arrive.

Service users may have a range of mental health difficulties, including personality disorder or a mild learning disability (as a secondary diagnosis). Our approach focuses on a culture of risk management balanced with therapeutic optimism, where men have the opportunity to develop and practice skills they will need in a safe environment.

You will be fully involved as a practising psychiatrist – while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
• Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
• Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
• Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
• Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
• Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
• Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
• Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development
• Participate in the On call rota in line with the needs of the region

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is

• Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent

Our Portfolio Pathway

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level – and you'll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

You'll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development – and you'll receive support with MRCPsych exams.
