Job summary

Warwickshire County Council is recruiting experienced teachers to join the Specialist Teaching Service, supporting schools to meet the needs of learners with SEND.

The role requires a qualified teacher with degree and a specialist SEND qualification (or working towards one), plus extensive SEND experience and the ability to train staff. You will work with schools to build confidence and inclusive practice.

Job description

We are looking to recruit experienced and skilled teachers to join Warwickshire's Specialist Teaching Service. The service supports schools to develop their strategic response to meeting the needs of learners with SEND, including needs relating to cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, and communication and interaction., The Fluency Duty is outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers. The Fluency Duty for this role is Required. You must be able to speak and provide advice in accurate spoken English to the public.

We are looking for an experienced and skilled teacher with strong mainstream and SEND experience to join a service with over twenty years' experience of working in partnership with schools through traded specialist support. This role will support the delivery of Warwickshire's Local Authority Experts at Hand offer, while also working as part of the traded Specialist Teaching Service to support schools to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND. The successful candidate will have experience of working with schools and staff to build confidence, capacity and inclusive practice. They will be skilled, organised and flexible, with the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment and manage competing demands. We welcome candidates with a strong commitment to professional, school-facing support and to improving outcomes for vulnerable pupils.

Key skills and requirements

A qualified teacher, educated to degree level, with a specialist SEND postgraduate qualification, or working towards one, and/or extensive experience of working with learners with SEND. You will also have

• the ability to support schools to increase the knowledge and confidence of primary and secondary school staff in meeting the needs of children and young people with SEND, including through the delivery of training;
• significant and successful post-qualification mainstream experience, with up-to-date knowledge and understanding of effective SEND practice and current issues;
• the ability to influence and support senior leaders in schools and settings, promoting excellent, evidence-based practice to meet an increasingly diverse range of need and to influence practice at an earlier stage;
• the experience and expertise to empower families and service users;
• the ability to work under pressure, meeting unpredictable deadlines and managing competing demands effectively;
• the ability to work as part of the 'team around the child', working flexibly to develop and share creative approaches, and positively influencing the practice of others through training and coaching.
