Job summary

IEG Group is seeking a Specialist Support Tutor – Core Skills in Peterborough to deliver tailored teaching to students with SEND. You will work with individuals and small groups to strengthen English, maths, language and study skills, enabling progress and independence in a supportive college setting.

The role emphasises safeguarding, collaboration with curriculum teams and the Wellbeing and Safeguarding Team, with a focus on inclusive education and accessible teaching strategies.

Qualifications

• A Level 5 teaching qualification, such as a Diploma in Education and Training, Cert Ed or PGCE.
• Experience of teaching, assessing individual support needs, planning learning and reviewing student progress.
• Experience of setting and reviewing SMART targets and person-centred outcomes.
• A good understanding of SEND, learning barriers, inclusive practice and relevant legislation.
• Knowledge of risk assessments, data protection and the importance of maintaining accurate and confidential records.
• A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion and continuous professional development.
• A specialist qualification at Level 3 or above in English, maths, language or SEND would be desirable, alongside experience of delivering EHCP provision, staff training or support in higher education.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging teaching and learning sessions in English, maths, language and, where required, study skills.
• Assess individual learning and support needs, set SMART targets and monitor student progress.
• Support the implementation of EHCP provision and contribute to reviews and recommendations.
• Promote the use of assistive technology, specialist equipment and appropriate learning strategies to maximise independence.
• Support exam access arrangements by providing evidence of students’ normal ways of working.
• Complete support assessments, support plans, risk assessments and relevant documentation.
