Job summary

TeacherActive is supporting King Edward VI College in Nuneaton to recruit a Specialist Support Assistant for a short-term, full-time placement. The role provides 1:1 support to 16-18 year-old students with SEN, helping them engage with lessons and access learning in a college environment.

The position runs from Monday 2nd November to Friday 18th December 2026, with hours 8:30am–4:30pm (Mon/Tue/Thu) and 8:30am–2:45pm (Wed/Fri).

Qualifications

• Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEN qualification (desirable).
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN.
• Experience providing 1:1 support within educational settings.
• Ability to adapt learning activities to meet individual student needs.
• Excellent communication and ability to build relationships with students and staff.
• Patient, caring and adaptable with a can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to students aged 16-18 with SEN.

TeacherActive is proud to be working with King Edward VI College in Nuneaton, supporting their search for a Specialist Support Assistant. The college provides education for students aged 16-18, offering an environment where young people can develop their knowledge, confidence and independence.

The college is looking to appoint a dedicated Specialist Support Assistant on a short-term, full-time basis from Monday 2nd November until Friday 18th December 2026. The successful Specialist Support Assistant will provide 1:1 support to students aged 16-18 with a variety of Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them engage with classroom activities, access their learning and develop their independence.

Working hours will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, and Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am to 2:45pm.

The successful Specialist Support Assistant will have:

• A relevant Teaching Assistant or SEN qualification (desirable)
• Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
• Experience providing 1:1 support within an educational setting
• The ability to adapt learning activities to meet individual student needs
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
• A patient, caring and adaptable approach with a 'can-do' attitude
