Job summary

Birch Hill Primary School and Nursery is seeking a dedicated Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of additional needs within our specialist provision.

You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo to deliver high-quality learning, social and emotional support, contributing to personalised learning plans and ensuring pupils feel safe and included.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND, ideally including ASD, MLD or speech, language and communication needs.
• NVQ Level 2 / CACHE Level 2 or equivalent, and English/Maths to Level 2 (or willingness to work towards this).
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and the wellbeing of all pupils.

Responsibilities

• Providing care, support and supervision for pupils with a range of additional needs, including intimate care and administering medication as required.
• Supporting learning activities, helping pupils engage positively with their programmes of work.
• Promoting inclusion and positive behaviour, logging concerns as needed.
• Preparing, maintaining and organising resources, materials and displays.
• Supervising pupils during lessons, breaks and lunchtimes, including wet‑play and outdoor activities.
• Collaborating with teachers, the SENCo and families to monitor progress and agree next steps.

Birch Hill Primary School is seeking a committed and compassionate Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on pupils with a range of additional needs within our specialist provision.

You will work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo to provide high-quality learning, social and emotional support. This includes supporting individual and small‑group programmes, contributing to personalised learning plans, and ensuring pupils feel safe, included and able to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing care, support and supervision for pupils with a range of additional needs, including intimate care and administering medication as required.
• Supporting learning activities, helping pupils engage positively and purposefully with their programmes of work.
• Promoting inclusion, acting as a positive role model and responding to individual needs.
• Preparing, maintaining and organising resources, materials and displays.
• Supporting behaviour management, recognising positive behaviours and logging/reporting concerns as required.
• Supervising pupils during lessons, breaks and lunchtimes, including wet‑play and outdoor activities.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCo and parents/carers to share information, monitor progress and identify next steps.
• Keeping accurate pupil records and contributing to feedback on learning objectives.
• Providing general administrative support as required.
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, wellbeing, confidentiality and data protection in line with Trust policy.

• Experience supporting children with SEND, ideally including ASD, MLD or speech, language and communication needs.
• A caring, patient and resilient approach, with the ability to respond calmly and adaptively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families.
• A good understanding of child development and effective learning strategies.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to use initiative.
• A commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and the wellbeing of all pupils.
