Job overview

We are offering a rare opportunity to join our adult critical care pharmacy team for a 9 month fixed term or secondment. We are a very supportive team with comprehensive expertise in the various aspects of critical care pharmacy. We look forward to sharing our enthusiasm for improving pharmaceutical care for our patients with you. The focus of the job will be clinical pharmacy provision to the Adult Critical Care Unit (both OCCU and CICU) plus there will be opportunity to get stuck into some project work.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Pharmacist Adult Critical Care provides clinical pharmacy service to patients on the Adult Critical Care Units (OCCU and CICU) in Oxford University Hospitals in close cooperation with other critical care pharmacists.

They support Highly Specialist Pharmacists, the Consultant Pharmacist Critical Care, and work alongside other Specialist Pharmacists in the CAPR (Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Pre-op Assessment & Resuscitation) pharmacy team to deliver safe, effective and efficient clinical pharmacy services to the Adult ICUs. This includes reviewing and optimising prescriptions, attendance at and contribution to MDT ward rounds, as well as providing advice and teaching for junior pharmacy staff and other critical care healthcare professionals, appropriate to the postholder’s level of experience.

The postholder will, with appropriate support, deputise for the Senior Pharmacists Critical Care at medicines or governance related unit level meetings, e.g. OCC Quality & Safety Meeting. They will support the CAPR directorate pharmacy team in producing medicines evaluation, medicines protocols and treatment guidelines as well as participating in medicines-related audits or other projects related to Adult Critical Care.

The postholder will occasionally support the CAPR Lead Directorate Pharmacist in providing clinical pharmacy services to other specialities in the directorate, e.g. Anaesthetics, within their level of skills or following appropriate training if required.

Qualifications
  • Masters Degre (4 Year MPharm or equivalent) in Pharmacy
  • Registered as pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice and due to complete the diploma, or equivalent external credentialling via CPPE/ RPS
  • Post Graduate Diploma/MSc in Pharmacy Practice or experience/ qualification/ credentialling deemed equivalent.
  • Completion of formal Leadership program
