Are you an experienced critical care nurse with a post registration qualification in Adult Intensive Care nursing? At the Churchill Intensive Care Unit (CICU) we have an exceptional opportunity to work in a nationally renowned centre for specialties such as Cancer & Haematology; Maxillofacial surgery and one of the largest transplant centres in Europe!

Our 8 bedded unit offers a bright, airy, and modern environment to provide holistic patient centred care.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide holistic patient care which is underpinned by OUH values.
  • Work collaboratively with the patient and their family, to create patient centred care package, promoting active patient involvement.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain and develop high standards of nursing care, reflecting the professional nursing practice.
  • Maintain and develop general and specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the Churchill Intensive Care Unit.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner and be a role model to others, in line with The Code (NMC 2015).
  • Demonstrate understanding and the ability to perform the role of Unit Coordinator and the responsibilities and demands of this role.
  • Assist in the strategic planning of the AICU service by participating in Unit initiatives, completing necessary audits and questionnaires, and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for junior team members in the clinical area.
  • Act as a professional representative for Churchill Critical Care at a local, national and international level if required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Opportunity to apply for and undertake further Post Graduate study in the field of your choice.
  • Completion of a leadership course supportive of the role and future development, if required.
Person specification
Experience
  • Postgraduate qualification in critical care, or equivalent.
  • Able to deliver a high standard of care for patients and always striving to improve on what you do through change and innovation.
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery.
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/ward manager/unit co-ordinator.
  • Able to proactively contribute to the education of learners and non-registered and less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to question and challenge nursing practice in a constructive way so that standards of patient care are continually evaluated and improved.
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
  • Band 6 experience in CC.
