Job overview

We have a great opportunity for a physiotherapist to continue their development in the field of Paediatric Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. The post will be providing physiotherapy intervention to children and young people aged 0-18 with Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedic and Rheumatological conditions referred to our service in Ealing.The caseload you will be responsible for will be highly varied and promote your clinical and professional development within a supportive environment.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist Physiotherapy interventions for children and young people (CYP) aged 0-18 with Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedic and Rheumatological conditions across the Borough of Ealing, and to assist in the rehabilitation of CYP discharged from hospital, for example following acute injury, surgery or oncology treatment. They will be supported by a Band 7 Paediatric MSK Team Lead for their supervision, appraisal and development.

The post holder will provide evidence-based practice to meet the needs of CYP and assist in the delivery of an equitable service. They will be expected to work collaboratively with CYP, parents/carers, and with colleagues in Education, Health and Social Care. They will contribute to departmental meetings and clinical audit and research projects within this specialist area. They will take part in planning and delivering highly specialist training to other physiotherapists, professionals and parents/carers on all aspects relating to Paediatric Musculoskeletal physiotherapy. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, team player with some previous experience in paediatric physiotherapy and excellent communication skills. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team that is passionate about delivering a high-quality service for our children and families.

We are a predominantly clinic-based service that also offers a shared care pathway with Great Ormond Street for Rheumatology, as well as lower limb and core rehab groups.

Professional development and training will be supported within our department by experienced paediatric physiotherapists and you will be part of an in-service training program. Development of excellent clinical skills will be promoted and supported by senior staff, along with access to external training available in line with your personal development plan.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Provision and development of Paediatric Musculoskeletal services in Ealing

• Training and supervision of Band 5 Physiotherapist & Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant

• Support Clinical Lead in achieving Key Performance Indicators and maintaining data quality within the service

• Working with the Local Authority to deliver community-based rehab groups

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

1. To work as an autonomous practitioner to provide highly specialised assessment and treatment of children with musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and rheumatological conditions.

2. To assist in the rehabilitation of children with neuromuscular conditions and complex needs, including those with life limiting conditions, following hospital admission or surgery, as well as children undergoing oncology treatment.

3. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

4. To contribute to the development of the Paediatric Musculoskeletal service

Working Relationships and Communication Requirements

1. To provide and receive complex, sensitive information. To communicate this effectively with patients, families/carers, physiotherapy colleagues, other health care professionals and outside agencies involved, in written or verbal format, minimising barriers to communication.

2. To employ excellent communication skills such as persuasion, motivation and clear explanations to encourage parents, children and staff, in the many settings to carry out the treatment programmes as recommended.

3. To attend case conferences and meetings where relevant, in order to contribute highly specialist, relevant information.
