Job summary

NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Orthopaedic Team, supporting patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery and trauma care.

The fixed-term post offers opportunities to develop specialist orthopaedic rehabilitation skills within a busy MDT, contribute to discharge planning, and participate in service improvement to enhance patient outcomes and reduce length of stay.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration required.
• Excellent communication and team-working skills.
• Passionate about delivering patient-centred care.
• Strong clinical reasoning and organisational skills.
• Interest in orthopaedics and rehabilitation.
• Flexible with regard to start and finish times for patient needs.
• Previous experience within acute care and orthopaedics is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assess and support patients undergoing elective orthopaedic procedures, including hip and knee replacements.
• Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation and discharge planning.
• Work closely with physiotherapists, nursing staff, consultants and wider MDT colleagues.
• Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide patient and carer education to maximise independence and recovery.
