Job summary

NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Orthopaedic Team, supporting patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery and trauma care. This fixed-term post runs to 31 March 2027, with an MDT providing supervision and development opportunities.

You will assess, rehabilitate, discharge plan and educate patients, contributing to service improvements and reduced length of stay, while delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration is essential.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills required.
• Passion for patient-centred care.
• Demonstrates clinical reasoning and organisational skills.
• Interest in orthopaedics and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

• Assess and support patients undergoing elective orthopaedic procedures, including hip and knee replacements.
• Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation and discharge planning.
• Work closely with physiotherapists, nursing staff, consultants and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide patient and carer education to maximise independence and recovery.
