Job description

Applications are invited for a 4 hours per week specialist GP, based in Nottingham Recovery Network (NRN) but working with POW the specialist outreach service supporting sex workers in the city. This is a six-month fixed term appointment to cover a sabbatical.

Applicants must be eligible for registration on the General Medical Council (GMC) General Practitioner register. Equivalent qualifications and experience would be considered.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced); this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

The post will be based at NRN Wellbeing Hub, Hounds Gate, Nottingham NG1 6BB but be expected to work at the POW site at 16 Independent Street, Nottingham, NG7 3LN and will provide outpatient assessments and treatment there or remote video consultation.

The successful post-holder will be expected to provide the lead medical input into this specialist outreach service. The day‑to‑day clinical activity will include assessing and managing substance misuse within the POW population of patients who are sex‑workers. There will be a requirement to prescribe opiate substitution therapy to the patient group and to make appropriate arrangements for ongoing follow‑up, referral to specialist treatment such as inpatient detox, or to other physical and/or mental health treatment pathways as appropriate.

The post holder will have a significant exciting opportunity to provide leadership to forge and form better working with primary care in the delivery of healthcare to this patient group.

It is expected that the post holder will work closely with the current specialist nurse who supports the clinical activity within POW.

The post‑holder will be expected to participate in the training of medical students, specialist registrars and other disciplines.

The post‑holder will be expected to participate in appraisal and Trust arrangements for Revalidation. This currently occurs through SARD, an electronic platform.

The duties of the post are subject to change from time to time in the light of changing requirements of the service, in consultation with the post‑holder.

The successful candidate will be required to reside within a reasonable distance from Nottingham that allows for the proper completion of all duties. If undertaking remote practice, the postholder will need to have access to a suitable high‑speed internet connection.

The post holder will be expected to be in good standing for CPD with the Royal College of General Practitioners.
