This 6 month fixed term post will involve covering oncology outpatients, alongside the Band 7 Macmillan Dietitian. The post holder will carry their own caseload of oncology and haematology patients, including those being treated for pancreatic, lung and colo-rectal cancers. There will be MDT working with oncologists, clinical nurse specialists, Macmillan cancer support workers and the community teams, such as the Dorothy House Dietitian. The post holder would be expected to support more junior members of the team with supervision. Support will also be provided in developing competencies as part of this post. This post would suit a Band 5 Dietitian looking to specialize, or a Band 6 Dietitian interested in working in different areas.

You will work, learn and develop alongside our therapy colleagues in speech and language, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, based within a new, purpose built building.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will provide a Dietetic service oncology and haematology outpatients; this may involve face to face reviews, telephone reviews, virtual reviews, or joint reviews with other health professionals. This will involve independently covering and prioritising a caseload, requiring good time management skills. You will work together with the Band 7 Macmillan Dietitian and the rest of the MDT team, to deliver effective, patient centred care, and should have good communication skills.

We train student Dietitians from the University of Plymouth and the University of Winchester, and this post will be actively involved in student training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree or post graduate or other qualification acceptable to HCPC for registration as a dietitian in the UK
  • Evidence of further postgraduate study and continuous professional development in relevant areas

Other

Essential criteria

  • Post-registration relevant clinical dietetic experience in oncology
  • Experience in oral nutritional support and enteral nutrition support
  • Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating education
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of working with palliative patients
  • Evidence of participation in clinical governance issues in relation to dietetic practice.
  • Evidence of participation in audit activities in relation to dietetic practice.
  • Working knowledge of professional ethics and their application in practice.
  • Awareness of risk, clinical incidents, safe guarding and Health & Safety issues.
  • Experience of working with pancreatic cancer patients, including advising on pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Computer literacy must be familiar with Microsoft Office including Power Point. Presentation skills. Report writing skills Problem solving skills. Organisational skills

Desirable criteria

  • British Dietetic Association and relevant specialist group membership
  • Post registration training in communication and behaviour change skills.
  • Behaviour change/motivational interviewing
  • Experience of evaluating Dietetic services
  • Familiar with dietary analysis packages. Involvement in Service Evaluation. Personal experience of data collection, analysis and reporting.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
