Job Description:

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated pharmacist to join our Critical Care and Women / Children’s pharmacy teams at NHS Fife. NHS Fife's Critical Care services include an Intensive Care Unit and Medical and Surgical High-Dependency Units. The Women’s and Children’s (W+C) services provide care for paediatric, neonatal, obstetric, and gynaecology patients. You will be part of a supportive pharmacy team dedicated to developing services for these patients.

- Our vision is to integrate care across these specialist settings and enhance team resilience in these environments.
As a Specialist Pharmacist, you will work within a multidisciplinary team to improve the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of prescribing. You will contribute to formulary submissions, review, and develop clinical guidelines. You will provide clinical pharmacy services and support the strategic and operational development of the pharmacy service at NHS Fife.

Requirements include relevant post-registration experience, sound clinical knowledge, excellent communication and organisational skills, comprehensive IT skills, and either a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy/prescribing sciences or equivalent experience, or be an independent prescriber, or be able to complete these within an agreed timescale.

The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate is undergoing transformation and serves a population of approximately 380,000. The team includes around 300 staff working across hospitals, general practices, mental health services, and specialist teams. We value partnership working and aim to deliver high-quality care for everyone in Fife.

Fife offers excellent transport links, being only 30 minutes to 1 hour from major cities.
Please note, the post may come under review as part of service planning, possibly involving a fixed specialty or rotational programs.

For informal enquiries, contact:

  • Scott Mitchell, Lead Clinical Pharmacist - Women, Children and Cancer Services ([email])
  • Alan Timmins, Advanced Clinical Pharmacist, Critical Care Services ([email])
  • Michelle McBurney, Senior Pharmacist Women and Children ([email])

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If assessed as a "regulated role," appointment will be subject to joining the PVG Scheme. Changes will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team. For more info, visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all employees can work in the UK. If you are not a UK or Irish National, you must confirm your right to work. NHS Scotland is committed to equality and diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of society. We offer flexible working, family-friendly policies, and support for disabled candidates and those with long-term conditions or neurodivergence.

The salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.
