Job summary

Affinity Partnerships are seeking Special Needs Teaching Assistants to support Primary and Secondary pupils with additional learning needs in schools around Waltham Forest. Roles involve 1:1 support, behaviour management and helping pupils achieve education plans under teachers and the SENCO.

The ideal candidate will be excited about working with children, possess knowledge of the secondary curriculum, and have patience and resilience to adapt to individual needs.

Qualifications

  • Must enjoy working with children and be creative.
  • Knowledge of the secondary curriculum is desirable.
  • Experience managing a class in the absence of the class Teacher.
  • Confident managing children’s behaviour.
  • Emotionally resilient and able to handle challenging situations.
  • Approachable, friendly character with good interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness or experience of supporting children and adults with additional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher and SENCO.
  • Contribute to personalised academic, social and emotional learning goals as per an individual education plan.
  • Assist with behaviour management and classroom routines to create a positive learning environment.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant - full-time (NMSENTA1) Waltham Forest, England

Affinity Partnerships are supporting both Primary and Secondary schools in search of Special Needs Teaching Assistants to support pupils with additional learning needs to start in September. The support is predominantly with ASD, ADHD, challenging behaviour and learning difficulties. Each role will vary as every child is unique so your approaches should be tailored and specific to their needs.

This is a very rewarding role and will require you to guide the child’s learning alongside the classroom teacher and SENCO. Most students require 1:1 support will be under the provision of an individual education plan so you will help the child achieve this personalised academic, social and emotional learning goals set by educational professionals.

An ideal candidate will be:

  • Excited about working with children and being creative
  • Knowledge of the Secondary curriculum
  • Experience managing a class in the absence of the class Teacher
  • Confident managing children’s behaviour
  • Emotionally resilient
  • An approachable, friendly character
  • Aware or have experience of supporting children and adults with additional needs

  • Can offer previous experience with mental health in a supporting capacity
