Veritas Education seeks a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4-19 with complex needs in Essex across Basildon, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Harlow, Colchester and surrounding areas.

The role runs full-time during term time, offering daily pay of £90-£120, and involves 1:1 and small-group support, personalised learning programmes, and close collaboration with teachers and therapists.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with SLD and/or PMLD (desirable but not essential).
  • Patient, calm, and proactive approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Manual handling, personal care, or sensory support experience (preferred).
  • Ideal for aspiring SEN Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Therapists, or Health & Social Care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a range of SEN including SLD, PMLD, SEMH and other needs.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
  • Assist with personalised learning programmes, care plans and sensory activities.
  • Support communication, engagement and emotional regulation.
  • Work with teachers, therapists and staff to maintain a safe, structured environment.
  • Build positive relationships to promote confidence, independence and wellbeing.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Pay: £90-£120 per day (DOE)
Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:00pm
Full-time Term Time Only
Essex (Basildon, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Harlow, Colchester & Surrounding Areas)

We’re looking for a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4-19 with a range of special educational needs, including SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), alongside associated social, emotional, and learning needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about inclusive education and helping young people with complex needs reach their full potential.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant Role
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEN, including SLD, PMLD, SEMH, and additional learning needs
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs and abilities
  • Assisting with personalised learning programmes, care plans, and sensory-based activities
  • Supporting communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Building positive, trusting relationships to promote confidence, independence, and wellbeing
Special Needs Teaching Assistant Requirements
  • A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with complex learning needs
  • A patient, calm, and proactive approach
  • Experience supporting pupils with SLD and/or PMLD (desirable but not essential)
  • Manual handling, personal care, or sensory support experience (preferred)
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable)
  • Ideal for aspiring SEN Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Therapists, or Health & Social Care professionals
