Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4-19 with SEN including SLD and PMLD in Essex and surrounding areas. The role is full-time term-time only, paying 90-120 per day DOE, with standard hours 8:30am-4:00pm, Mon-Fri.

We're looking for a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4-19 with a range of special educational needs, including SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties), alongside associated social, emotional, and learning needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about inclusive education and helping young people with complex needs reach their full potential.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant Role

• Supporting pupils with a range of SEN, including SLD, PMLD, SEMH, and additional learning needs
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs and abilities
• Assisting with personalised learning programmes, care plans, and sensory-based activities
• Supporting communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
• Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
• Building positive, trusting relationships to promote confidence, independence, and wellbeing

Special Needs Teaching Assistant Requirements

• A genuine interest in supporting children and young people with complex learning needs
• A patient, calm, and proactive approach
• Experience supporting pupils with SLD and/or PMLD (desirable but not essential)
• Manual handling, personal care, or sensory support experience (preferred)
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable)
• Ideal for aspiring SEN Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Therapists, or Health & Social Care professionals
