Special Needs Class Teacher - KS3/KS4
Location: Stoke-on-Trent Area
Contract: Full-Time | Temp to Perm
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and innovative Class Teacher to join a well-established and inclusive special school setting in the Stoke-on-Trent area. This school supports pupils aged 4-16 who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with a primary focus on Cognition and Learning. The school currently caters to over 240 pupils and follows the person-centred EQUALS curriculum, tailored to promote independence, engagement, and lifelong learning.
The successful candidate will teach a mixed Key Stage 3 and 4 class, supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and associated needs including speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), ADHD, and specific learning difficulties (SpLD).
This role would suit a teacher who:
- Has experience in early reading and maths strategies
- Ideally has a background in teaching KS1 or KS2 (though all backgrounds will be considered)
- Is creative, nurturing and resilient
- Can design engaging, stimulating learning environments that promote curiosity and exploration
Key responsibilities:
- Full teaching duties including planning, assessment, and reporting
- Creating and delivering personalised learning plans
- Working collaboratively with families, external agencies and colleagues
- Supporting pupils to manage behaviour and anxiety, including use of de-escalation techniques
- Contributing to EHCP reviews and supporting positive outcomes for each individual
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Experience teaching pupils with SEND, either in a mainstream or specialist setting
- Strong knowledge of inclusive and adaptive teaching practices
- Confidence in assessing and managing risk and behaviour
- A collaborative approach to working with multi-agency teams and families
