Inspiring Science Teacher Required - Long-Term Supply Role in SEND School (Heywood, Rochdale)
Start: Autumn Term Location: Heywood, Rochdale Role: Full-time

Are you a passionate Science Teacher with experience supporting students with special educational needs? Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a nurturing, inclusive SEND school in Heywood, Rochdale, to recruit a Science Teacher for a long-term supply position covering the entire autumn term.

The school caters for learners from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, many of whom have SEN and SEMH needs, and is dedicated to providing a trauma-informed, aspirational learning environment where every student is valued and supported to reach their full potential.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to teach Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to learners across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, including preparation for GCSE and other recognised qualifications. You'll be responsible for delivering engaging, accessible science lessons tailored to a wide range of individual needs, using creative, practical approaches that bring scientific concepts to life for learners who may have barriers to traditional classroom learning.

You'll work closely with a skilled team of teaching assistants, SEN professionals, and the Senior Leadership Team to ensure every pupil receives the individual support and encouragement they need to thrive academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver and assess high-quality science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, adapting your teaching style to suit learners with SEN and SEMH
  • Prepare students for GCSE and alternative Key Stage 4 assessments, ensuring content is accessible, inclusive, and tailored to their learning profiles
  • Use hands-on, practical approaches to make scientific concepts engaging and meaningful for students with diverse learning needs
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports emotional wellbeing, resilience, and a growth mindset
  • Implement strategies such as restorative practices, positive reinforcement, and structured routines to support students' emotional and behavioural regulation
  • Monitor and track student progress, identifying and responding to areas where further support is needed
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to students and communicate effectively with parents/carers and the wider school team
  • Collaborate with the SENCO, support staff and subject leaders to ensure high-quality, consistent provision for all learners

To be successful in this SEND Teacher role, you will need:

  • QTS or QTLS status
  • Recent experience teaching science to students aged 11-16, including those with SEND
  • Experience teaching to GCSE standard across the three sciences
  • A full employment/education history included in your CV, with any gaps explained
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure and suitable professional references
  • Legal right to work in the UK
