Job summary

Larkmead School in Abingdon is seeking a passionate SENDCO to lead our SEND and inclusion provision from January 2027. Working with the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, teachers, parents and external agencies, you will ensure that our pupils with SEND receive high-quality, personalised support and make excellent progress.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status in the UK.
• Recognised SENDCO qualification (NASENCO or NPQ SENDCO).

Responsibilities

• Strategic Direction: Oversee SEND strategy, policy and graduated approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review).

• Staff Guidance & Development: Coach and train teachers and support staff for adaptive teaching.
• Multi-Agency Working: Liaise with parents, educational psychologists, therapists and local authorities.
• Monitoring & Evaluation: Track progress and impact of interventions.

Job description

Larkmead School are seeking a passionate, dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO) to take a strategic lead on our SEND and inclusion provision. This position is to start from January 2027

Working closely with the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, teachers, parents, and external agencies, you will ensure that our pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive high-quality, personalised support and make excellent progress

You will be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher as outlined in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions document or any subsequent legislation.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Direction: Oversee and develop the implementation of the school’s SEND strategy, policy, and graduated approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review)
• Provision Coordination: Coordinate day-to-day provision for children with SEND, managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and statutory annual reviews.
• Staff Guidance & Development: Provide professional guidance, coaching, and training to teachers and learning support assistants to ensure adaptive teaching and effective classroom differentiation.
• Multi-Agency Working: Liaise effectively with parents, carers, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and local authority professionals.
• Monitoring & Evaluation: Track, monitor, and evaluate the progress of SEND pupils and the impact of targeted interventions

As the successful candidate you will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK
• A recognised SENDCO qualification (such as the National Award for SEN Coordination - NASENCO, or the National Professional Qualification for SENDCOs - NPQ SENDCO).
• Proven, successful experience working as a SENDCO or in a senior pastoral/inclusion leadership role.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory frameworks.
• Exceptional communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
• A genuine vocation and unwavering commitment to inclusive education

Interview process
