Job summary

ALTEN is seeking an Environmental Test Engineer to join our Portsmouth team, conducting vibration and shock testing for space and commercial hardware within a dedicated lab. You will set up tests, run sine and random profiles, and produce clear test logs and reports for internal and external customers.

The role requires hands-on experience in environmental testing, familiarity with M+P software, and a strong commitment to safe, accurate procedures.

Qualifications

• Hands-on vibration testing experience in lab or environmental test setting.
• Experience setting up and performing vibration/shock tests with systems and rigs.
• Experience executing sine, random and classical shock tests.
• Experience recording, processing and reporting vibration/shock data.
• Knowledge of national and international testing standards and safe lab practices.
• Ability to review procedures, specs and requirements.
• Strong customer-facing communication and presentation skills.
• Accurate and methodical approach to testing activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on vibration and shock testing on space and commercial hardware.
• Set up and execute sine, random and classical shock tests per requirements.
• Complete test logs and record all data accurately.
• Post-process data and produce technical test reports.
• Review procedures and provide feedback for safe, effective testing.
• Calibrate test equipment and help maintain lab facilities.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external customers on testing services.
• Support quotations, test scheduling and cost estimation.
• Contribute to development of test facilities for efficiency.
