Job summary

ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy seeking a Test Engineer for its on-site role in Filton. You will build, commission, and operate test equipment to evaluate aerospace components and systems, ensuring tests are conducted safely, accurately, and per programme requirements.

The role involves executing hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical tests, assembling systems, fault finding, safety validations, and maintaining comprehensive technical records.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical testing in aerospace environments.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
• Experience using test equipment, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and fault-finding tools.
• Strong health, safety, and quality procedures knowledge in engineering.
• Excellent problem-solving and systematic troubleshooting.
• Comfortable working in multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Job Description

As a Test Engineer you will be responsible for building, commissioning, and operating test equipment used to evaluate aerospace components and systems. Working closely with engineers and project teams, you will ensure testing activities are carried out safely, accurately, and in accordance with programme requirements.

• On Site: Fully Onsite

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute hydraulic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical tests on aerospace components and systems while accurately recording and reporting test results.
• Assemble, configure, and commission hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation systems to support testing activities and ensure equipment readiness.
• Conduct fault-finding and troubleshooting on test rigs, equipment, and integrated systems to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Perform pre-test inspections and safety validations, ensuring all testing activities comply with site and aerospace safety requirements.
• Monitor test performance, investigate anomalies, and support root cause analysis of equipment or system failures.
• Maintain accurate test documentation, reports, and technical records in accordance with quality and compliance standards.
• Work closely with engineers, designers, and project teams to support test programme delivery and continuous improvement activities.
• Ensure all test equipment, tooling, and work areas are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Hands-on experience working with hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical systems in a testing, manufacturing, maintenance, or aerospace environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Experience using test equipment, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and fault-finding tools.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and quality procedures within an engineering environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical and methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Comfortable working within multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, orequivalentmilitary experience.
• Aerospace industry experience.
• Knowledge of aircraft landing gear systems or hydraulic actuation systems.
• Exposure to aerospace testing, validation, or qualification programmes.
• Understanding of AS9100, ISO9001, or equivalent quality standards.
• Experience supporting complex test rigs or laboratory-based testing environments.
