Job summary

Wadworth’s Spread Eagle Inn on the Stourhead Estate in Wiltshire is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen leadership team. You’ll support the Head Chef in daily operations, lead the kitchen team and help deliver high-quality food and guest experiences.

You will drive consistency, control costs, develop team members and ensure the kitchen runs smoothly and safely, even in the Head Chef’s absence. A passion for great food and hospitality is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or experienced Chef de Partie is essential.
• Strong culinary skills and excellent communication abilities.
• Passion for developing both people and food.
• Ability to lead a kitchen team and maintain high standards.
• Value-driven with pride in heritage and hospitality.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef with day-to-day kitchen management and service.
• Lead, motivate and develop the kitchen team to maintain high standards.
• Prepare, cook and present dishes to specification and quality.
• Take responsibility for kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef.
• Assist with menu implementation, stock control, ordering and waste minimisation.
• Ensure food hygiene, safety and health & safety standards are maintained.
• Recruit, train and develop junior chefs and kitchen staff.
• Ensure smooth service periods and efficient kitchen operation.
• Drive quality, consistency and profitability through effective kitchen management.
• Collaborate withFront-of-House teams to deliver an outstanding guest experience.
