Job summary

Langdale Hotel & Spa in Ambleside is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to join the Stove Kitchen brigade, supporting high standards of quality and guest experience in a busy, high-volume kitchen.

You will help mentor junior chefs, manage kitchen operations, assist with menu development, and uphold hygiene and safety across services from breakfast to dinner, with on-site staff facilities and Langdale's luxury offering.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled Sous Chef to join the team at Stove Kitchen. The role is responsible for helping to create exceptional culinary experiences and is a key position within the kitchen brigade, supporting consistently high standards of food quality while playing an important role in exceeding guest expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality dishes across all services (breakfast to dinner)
• Assist with staff training, scheduling, and performance management
• Support menu preparation, inventory management, and cost control

• Develop and propose seasonal menu ideas based on guest trends

• Actively participate in day-to-day kitchen operations

• Passionate about food and creating innovative, high-quality dishes
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Capable of serving up to 600 guests while maintaining excellence
• Able to manage pressure during peak service periods
• Committed to personal development and developing others
• Strong team player with excellent communication skills
• Knowledgeable across cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen systems

Working conditions

This role is based on-site at Langdale Hotel and Spa, Ambleside, LA22 9JD. Staff accommodation or relocation support may be available for exceptional candidates. All candidates must have the legal right to live and work in the UK at the start of employment.
