The Barbican Centre invites applications for a Technician (Sound Bias) with a focus on high-quality live sound support across music and commercial events. The role requires experience with sound equipment, stage plans, microphone patching, and Digico mixing consoles within a busy arts venue.

You will join a collaborative team, monitoring safety and delivering top-level technical service. Two posts are available on an irregular shift schedule over seven days, including weekends and evenings.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in event production within a multi-disciplinary arts venue, concert hall, major music venue, or events organisation.
• Strong knowledge of the music industry and the creative processes involved in both classical and contemporary music‑making.
• Demonstrable experience managing complex live events, including stage management, technical delivery, production planning, and budget management.
• Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, risk assessment processes, and safe working practices for live music events.
• Experience using production management systems such as Artifax, together with strong IT and project management skills.
• Experience operating DiGiCo mixing consoles and networks in a professional environment.
• Proven ability to follow and interpret stage plans, patch lists and technical specifications.
• Experience of sound system set‑up, operation and basic maintenance

Responsabilités

• Review and interpret stage plans, patch lists and technical specs to execute sound setups.
• Provide high-level technical support for music and commercial events at Barbican Centre.
• Collaborate with the Music Department and production teams to ensure safe, smooth event delivery.
• Assist in basic sound equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Support training and development to grow broader technical capabilities.
