Job summary

Barbican is seeking a Stage Assistant to support the Senior Stage Operations Manager and the wider team in delivering rehearsals, concerts and commercial events in the Concert Hall. You will work closely with visiting artists, orchestras and production teams, helping with stage changeovers, equipment preparation and artist support.

The role requires experience backstage in live events, knowledge of orchestral setups and strong organizational skills, with a flexible approach to evenings, weekends

Qualifications

• Backstage theatre experience in a concert hall, theatre or live events setting.
• Experience supporting rehearsals, performances or productions.
• Knowledge of stage equipment and orchestral/set-up requirements.
• Ability to interpret stage plans and production information accurately.
• Good organizational and communication skills with colleagues and artists.

Responsibilities

• Support rehearsals, soundchecks, concerts and commercial events in the Concert Hall.
• Assist with stage changeovers, backline builds, equipment moves and orchestral set-ups.
• Prepare and position stage equipment, instruments and risers as per production requirements.
• Supervise casual staff during events and venue set-ups when required.
• Operate stage systems and automated equipment following training.
• Welcome artists and clients with professional backstage support.
• Maintain and store stage equipment and backstage spaces carefully.
• Complete venue checks, show reports and housekeeping inspections.
• Assist in safe loading/unloading of vehicles per health and safety procedures.
• Contribute to emergency procedures and maintain First Aid readiness.
• Promote inclusive practices and accessible performances.
