Job description

Established in 2006, CyberClan’s carefully selected team of experts are capable of solving complex cybersecurity challenges – keeping data secure and businesses running as usual. CyberClan’s Global Incident Response Teams are available 24/7/365 to leap into action, responding to all cyber-attacks with proven defensive methodology.

Our goal is to get businesses fully operational as quickly as possible and to prevent any downtime or impact on business operations. CyberClan investigates and assists clients with all types of security breaches, insider threats, unauthorized access, and malicious code.

Role Overview:

We’re looking for a UK-qualified lawyer with experience or strong interest in insurance law and claims handling. This role supports the CERT team with reviewing insurance policies, assisting with claims assessments, and contributing to breach response efforts. It is ideal for someone with early in-house or private practice experience who’s ready to grow into a broader commercial legal role.

This role involves reviewing, assessing, advising, and providing expertise in the management of the claims process to support CyberClan’s delivery of Incident Response projects, including analysis of claims and recommendations for resolution.

We seek an experienced claims professional to handle intricate primary and excess Cyber, Tech, and Media policies, as well as future Executive Risks and Management Professional Liability. You will collaborate with vendors, including breach counsel, defense counsel, and coverage counsel for partner carriers.

The role also involves supporting breach response efforts, managing the immediate impact of security incidents with timely, practical advice, and coordinating with IT, legal, and internal teams for swift, organized responses.

Responsibilities of the Role:
  1. Handle the intake of severe cyber events, coordinating with breach counsel, forensic investigators, and vendors.
  2. Evaluate claims and recommend reserves.
  3. Manage litigation related to security failures or data breaches, including Media and Tech E&O.
  4. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in our claims system.
  5. Assess liability and damages, ensuring proper documentation.
  6. Assess insurance coverage issues.
  7. Guide and track third-party vendors and service providers.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, risk managers, legal teams, and vendors.
  9. Identify settlement opportunities to maximize impact and preserve limits.
  10. Collaborate on the defense and resolution of claims.
  11. Provide data and insights to underwriters.
  12. Assist the business development team with marketing efforts.
  13. Liaise daily with carriers.
  14. Participate in a 24/7/365 incident response team, handling breach remediation and escalation.
  15. Coordinate with external legal advisers and insurers, especially on complex or high-value matters.
  16. Support contract negotiations by reviewing insurance and liability clauses.
  17. Research legal and regulatory developments related to insurance, data protection, and new jurisdictions, summarizing findings internally.
  18. Draft and review standard contract clauses related to insurance and liability.
  19. Maintain legal records and ensure documentation accuracy.
  20. Monitor legal and regulatory developments to keep stakeholders informed.
  21. Support breach response and crisis management with timely legal input during incidents.
  22. Assist in breach simulations and tabletop exercises.
  23. Collaborate on external-facing initiatives with marketing and business development teams.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Must Haves:
  1. UK-qualified solicitor with 2+ years post-qualification experience in insurance law (in-house or private practice).
  2. Proven experience advising on insurance claims and policy coverage.
  3. Knowledge of UK data protection laws, cyber insurance, and breach response practices.
  4. Ability to make sound legal judgments independently and communicate clearly with non-legal stakeholders.
  5. Strong coverage background.
  6. Experience working as part of or leading a team, meeting goals, and adapting to changing environments.
  7. Excellent communication skills, proactive mindset, and ability to interact effectively.
  8. Team-oriented with a collegial attitude.
Asset/Nice-to-Have:
  1. Previous in-house experience within a regulated sector.
  2. Experience working with breach coaches during cyber incidents.
  3. Familiarity with cross-border insurance or multinational policy frameworks.
