Job description

Gerrards Cross, United Kingdom | Posted on 20/01/2025

At B P Collins, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional legal services to our clients. With offices in the Thames Valley and London, our expert construction disputes team provides clear, practical advice to a diverse range of clients across the UK. We are known for our client-centric approach and proven track record in achieving efficient and commercial resolutions to complex construction disputes.

As part of our growing team, we are seeking two Construction Lawyers to help us continue to deliver the highest quality legal services and add depth and breadth to our busy and dynamic practice.

What the Role Involves

As a key member of the Construction Disputes Team, you will:

  1. Client Advisory: Advise clients on contractual terms, particularly the JCT suite of contracts, providing tailored guidance to meet commercial and practical needs.
  2. Dispute Resolution: Handle disputes involving defective works, payment claims (both interim and final), delay claims (extensions of time, loss and expense, and liquidated damages), and claims against third parties under security arrangements.
  3. Case Management: Manage cases in the High Court and Technology and Construction Court, as well as alternative dispute resolution processes, including mediation and adjudication.
  4. Strategic Problem-Solving: Provide real-time advice during live projects to minimise the risk of disputes and to ensure clients are well-positioned to defend or bring claims if necessary.
  5. Collaboration and Training: Work collaboratively with colleagues and clients to deliver industry updates and legislative training, ensuring clients stay ahead of key developments affecting their businesses.
Who We Are Looking For

This is a fantastic opportunity for ambitious and talented lawyers to join a high-performing and supportive team. Whether you are an experienced construction disputes lawyer or earlier in your career with the aptitude and desire to develop in this field, we want to hear from you.

  • Experience: Advising clients on construction contracts (especially JCT contracts) and handling disputes involving defects, payment claims, delay issues, and liquidated damages.
  • Desirable Skills: Experience in High Court/Technology and Construction Court cases, and alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation and adjudication.
  • Specialist Expertise: Familiarity with claims against third parties under security arrangements in the construction context is highly valued.
  • Core Strengths: Strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritise and manage a busy caseload, and a collaborative, client-focused mindset.
What We Can Offer You
  • Competitive remuneration and benefits package.
  • Hybrid working opportunities and access to welcoming, agile offices.
  • A supportive and inclusive culture focused on collaboration and teamwork.
  • Clear, structured career progression opportunities.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives integral to your professional success.
  • Regular training and development opportunities to enhance your knowledge of legislative changes and industry practices.
