Job summary

P&C Electrical is looking for an experienced Solar PV Designer to join our Derby team. We design and install solar PV, battery storage and EV charging for domestic, commercial and industrial clients across the UK, bringing design in-house for accuracy and faster turnaround.

You will manage from survey to install-ready designs, covering from single houses to large commercial rooftops and ground mounts, with a focus on meeting MCS and BS 7671 standards.

Qualifications

• A solid understanding of domestic and commercial electrical installations.
• Experience with PV, battery storage and EV charging systems.
• Familiarity with MCS and the G98/G99 processes.

Responsibilities

• designing domestic and commercial PV and battery systems
• producing panel layouts, string designs and electrical schematics
• carrying out shading assessments and generation forecasts
• specifying panels, inverters, batteries, mounting systems and protection
• putting together material schedules, specifications and install packs
• doing cable sizing, volt drop and protection calculations
• preparing the technical information for G98 and G99 applications
• checking surveys, roof measurements and supply details, and spotting problems before they reach site
• making sure every design meets MCS requirements, BS 7671 and manufacturer instructions
• dealing with customers, DNOs, manufacturers, surveyors and our install teams
• giving technical support to our estimating and sales teams

The role

You'll take a job from survey through to a design our engineers can install from. That ranges from a single house to large commercial rooftops and ground mounts.

Day to day, you'll be:

• designing domestic and commercial PV and battery systems
• producing panel layouts, string designs and electrical schematics
• carrying out shading assessments and generation forecasts
• specifying panels, inverters, batteries, mounting systems and protection
• putting together material schedules, specifications and install packs
• doing cable sizing, volt drop and protection calculations

What we're looking for

• A solid understanding of domestic and commercial electrical installations
• Working knowledge of battery storage and EV charging
• Experience with PV*SOL, OpenSolar, SolarEdge Designer or similar
• The ability to produce clear drawings and schematics that an installer can work from
• A working knowledge of MCS and the G98/G99 process
• Good attention to detail, and the organisation to keep several live projects moving at once

An electrical qualification, CAD skills or time spent on site would all help, but none of them are essential for the right person.
