This is a unique opportunity which involves designing, project management and technical support, it will suit someone that enjoys variety. We are seeking an experienced Solar Designer / Technical Lead with previous experience of commercial rooftop solar. You will support internal teams as the central point for technical advice and guidance. The majority of your time will focus on supporting the sales team with Solar PV designs, technical submissions, drawings, producing material lists and enabling works for sold projects (DNO applications, site surveys, installation drawings and installations packs). As the Company develops and Business grows, there will hopefully be an opportunity for career progression to build and head the Design and Technical team.

We have installed over 5,500 systems and currently manage over 19,000 installations across mainland UK 63MWp capacity), primarily on behalf of Portfolio Investors, Councils and Housing Associations. What you’ll do:

· Conduct technical site surveys on commercial properties for solar PV and BESS installations

· Conduction desktop assessments, completing PV layouts and designs

· Analyse data related to energy usage and implement into design proposals

· Design solar PV systems using software such as SolarEdge Designer, PVSOL, and AutoCAD

· Support in managing solar PV projects from initial feasibility through to construction, installation, and commissioning

· Understand customer requirements and provide technical support and guidance to the sales, operations and field teams

· Create and review electrical diagrams and wiring schematics, including single-line diagrams, string layouts, AC & DC wiring, and load schedules

· Check technical documentation such as cable calculations and component specifications

· Complete and submit ENA (DNO) applications

· Produce material lists and component specifications for projects

· Lead on building internal technical processes and solutions

· Help develop engineering standards and contribute to process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency

· Occasional liaise directly with customers to discuss technical issues

· Support sales with bid tenders and content descriptions

· Be the ‘in house’ solar PV champion across the business, keeping up to date with technology, best practice, compliance and regulatory changes that effect installations and operations and maintenance

· Support O&M operations from a triage, technical and improvement standpoint. This might involve basic training for the team on how system design can affect generation to technical support in client meetings to improvements in irradiation adjustments of data

· Work closely with roof and QHSE leads

What you’ll need:

· An understanding of electrical principles, construction codes, or building structures (e.g., roof types)

· Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical details to non-technical customers

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks effectively.

· Strong IT skills and experience with design software, including SolarEdge Designer, PVSOL, AutoCAD

· Strong knowledge and interest in Solar PV technologies, industry trends and legislation

· Experience working on commercial rooftop projects

· Engineering degree or background (BEng in Electrical Engineering preferred) or similar qualification or experience

· Knowledge of LV electrical installations and BS7671 18th edition wiring regulations

· Awareness of relevant ENA standards and UK electrical regulations

· Demonstrable project management skills, managing multiple projects simultaneously

· Problem-solving skills, with a solutions-focused approach

· Flexibility to assist with team duties as needed

· Willingness to travel to sites throughout the UK (2-3 times per month)

Location: Options for hybrid or remote working, with some travel throughout the UK

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Salary: £45,000 to £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
