Candour Talent are recruiting for a Software Systems Engineer for a Bridgend-based client. The role focuses on software and control systems design, development, and maintenance across current and future projects.

The ideal candidate will have strong VB.NET experience, 5+ years in software development, and an interest in machine/motion control with travel to field installations as needed.

Qualifications

• HND/Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years software development experience, ideally within an engineering environment.
• Strong VB.NET development experience.
• Experience of, or an interest in, machine/motion control and software-hardware integration.
• Experience with PLC systems and/or laser control would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage tasks within project timescales.
• Confident communicating with colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders at all levels.
• Willingness to travel internationally for field installations when required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out analysis of software requirements according to product definition and customer needs with product development and production teams.
• Ensure timely generation of system specifications including design, interfaces, and product definition.
• Design and develop software code to meet requirements using the appropriate language for the system.
• Prepare module descriptions, test plans and procedures and other software documentation.
• Prepare design review documentation and distribute for discussion.
• Liaise with end users and contractors to ensure compliance with system requirements.
• Support field installations on site around the world as required.
• Investigate system problems from design to acceptance and ongoing use.
• Propose and implement bug fixes and enhancements to prevent recurrence.
• Provide training to personnel and maintain technical knowledge at a high level.
• Maintain knowledge of legacy systems software and back up the Software Systems Manager.

• Location: Bridgend (primarily office-based with some flexibility, when required)
• Employment Type: Permanent/Full Time
• Working Hours: 37hrs/week (Monday to Thursday 08:30 17:00 and Friday 08:30 13:30)

With a UK head office and two overseas offices, our client is looking for an experienced Software Systems Engineer to take responsibility for the design, development, and maintenance of software and control systems across existing and future projects.

The Role:

• Carry out analysis of software requirements according to product definition and specific customer needs as required, working with product development and production teams.
• Ensure timely generation of the required system specifications including design, system interfaces, and product definition.
• Design and development of software code to meet specified requirements using the software language(s) most appropriate to the system.
• Prepare module descriptions, test plans and procedures and other software documentation as required, verifying that the software product is in accordance with the specified requirements.
• Prepare all necessary design review documentation and distribute to Company personnel as appropriate for discussion.
• Liaise with end users and other relevant contractors and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with system requirements.
• Support field installations on site around the world as required.
• Participate in investigations into system problems which may arise at any stage from design, coding and testing through to acceptance and on-going use of the products.
• Propose, define, and implement solutions to problems including bug-fixing and system modification and/or enhancement to prevent as far as possible recurrence of problems.
• Ensure the adequate and timely training of personnel within the company.
• Maintain own technical knowledge at an acceptably high and current level.
• Establish and maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Companys legacy systems control software (VB.NET) and provide a complete back up to the Software Systems Manager in relation to the core systems and other products.
