Start Your Career in Software Development
Are you a recent Computer Science graduate or aspiring software developer looking for your first opportunity within the technology industry?
Do you have some experience with SQL and ideally C#/.NET, and want to develop your skills in a professional software development environment?
We're recruiting a Graduate Development Support Engineer to join an established internal software development team within a leading, technology-driven business.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their technical career to gain hands‑on commercial experience, work alongside experienced software developers and develop the skills needed to progress into a software engineering position.
This is much more than a traditional IT support role. You'll be actively involved in investigating software issues, reviewing code, debugging applications and working directly with databases.
The Opportunity
You'll join a development department consisting of approximately 10-11 developers, working on bespoke internal applications used by over 1,000 employees across more than 60 offices.
The business has invested heavily in its technology, continually enhancing its internal systems through regular software releases, new functionality and improvements.
As part of the Development Support team, you'll work closely with experienced developers, technical architects and product owners, gaining valuable exposure to the full software development lifecycle.
The role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys problem‑solving, understanding how applications work and investigating technical issues.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Environment
You'll gain exposure to a range of technologies, including:
SQL experience is essential. Previous exposure to C#/.NET and Visual Studio would be highly advantageous, although the business is open to junior candidates with the right technical foundations and willingness to learn.
What We’re Looking For
We're particularly interested in hearing from:
Ideally, you’ll have:
You don’t need extensive commercial experience. University projects, personal coding projects and structured technical training are all relevant.
We're looking for someone with the right attitude, technical foundations and enthusiasm to develop.
Why Apply?
Breaking into software development as a graduate can be challenging. This position provides an opportunity to gain the commercial experience that many employers look for when recruiting junior developers.
Work alongside experienced developers
You'll be sitting alongside an established team of software developers, giving you direct access to technical knowledge, guidance and support.
You'll be working with code, databases and development tools rather than simply providing basic technical support.
Real career progression
Previous employees in similar positions have successfully progressed into junior software developer roles after gaining experience within the team.
Learn how professional development teams operate
Gain exposure to debugging, software releases, QA processes, database management and the wider software development lifecycle.
Work on business‑critical applications
The systems you’ll be supporting are used throughout a large organisation, providing exposure to real‑world software challenges and technical problem‑solving.
Working Arrangements
Candidates should ideally live within approximately one hour’s commute of Chiswick.
