Job Description

Join HPE for a 13-month placement beginning in July 2027.

As a Software Engineering Intern at HPE, you'll gain real-world experience by contributing to business-critical projects and working with cutting-edge technologies. You'll take ownership of meaningful work, learn from experienced leaders, and connect with other interns. The programme also offers professional development, networking opportunities, volunteering, and event planning.

Location: Bristol, UK

What you'll do

You will build practical experience across the software development lifecycle by contributing to the team's day-to-day engineering work. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing new features
• Identifying, fixing and documenting bugs
• Participating in peer code reviews
• Contributing to the team's knowledge base
• Analyzing and designing software and configuration changes

You will work closely with QA engineers, DevOps engineers, software developers and architects, gaining insight into how different disciplines collaborate to deliver business-critical software.

You will be joining a cohort of interns. Alongside your technical work you will have the opportunity to:

• Get involved with site charity and social events
• Develop organizational and leadership skills
• Support employee resource groups and site-wide initiatives
• Help shape a strong, inclusive culture across the Bristol site

What you'll need

• You should currently be pursuing a bachelor's or integrated master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software development or another IT-related field, with your course including a placement year.
• An interest in one or more of the following areas is desirable: computer architecture; concurrent or multithreaded programming; embedded systems; Linux; networks and communications; cloud microservice development; or operating systems.
• You must be eligible to work in the UK and available to begin the 13-month placement in early July 2027.

Technologies and experience

• Experience with any of the following programming languages is desirable: assembly or another language used for embedded-system development; C, C# or C++; Java; Python; or Go.
