Job summary

Online Oceans in Southampton, UK is seeking a Software Engineer (Robotics) to own substantial parts of SentryOS, the Linux-based software on our autonomous boats. The role combines embedded systems, flight-control integration over MAVLink, and keeping Starlink and Iridium links reliable during trials at sea.

You will develop simulation, hardware-in-the-loop tests, and ship updates safely to boats far from shore.

Online Oceans is recruiting a Software Engineer (Robotics) in Southampton, United Kingdom.

Contract: full time (hybrid).

Language: English.

Work experience: 5+ years.

The role covers own large parts of SentryOS, the Linux software on every Scout: services, watchdogs, logging and self-recovery so a vehicle can clear its own faults hundreds of miles from shore.

Integrate flight control over MAVLink, keep Starlink and Iridium links reliable, build simulation and hardware-in-the-loop tests, and ship updates safely to boats at sea.

Requirements

• 5+ years building software for robots, drones or embedded systems
• deep practical Linux (systemd, networking, serial, embedded boards)
• strong Python
• software you have shipped on hardware in the field

Preferred Skills

• Flight control and MAVLink strongly preferred
• C/C++ and low-bandwidth comms are a plus
