Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior software engineer to design, build and support scalable distributed applications on web, mobile and business platforms. You will work with the squad to ensure alignment with strategic direction and smooth knowledge transfer across teams.

You will contribute to architecture decisions, engage in R&D, and drive CI/CD in cloud environments using Spring and AWS technologies. Collaboration across disciplines and autonomous delivery are expected.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and support scalable, highly available distributed applications for web, mobile and business platforms.
• Provide direct engineering support to ensure squad solutions align with strategic direction.
• Ensure smooth transition of technical solutions and knowledge to the wider team.
• Support discovery, architecture and design of new and complex solutions and delivery patterns.
• Work with the Principal Engineer on architecture designs and significant changes.
• Support architecture decisions and solution design across integrated disciplines.

• Develop technical skills within the squad through knowledge transfer of emerging technologies.
• Ensure architectural solutions comply with control standards and non-functional requirements.
• Align solutions with change priorities and manage risks.
• Support full development cycle of solution designs, including testing.
• Identify efficiencies in processes, solutions and technology.

Job description

• Design, build and support highly scalable, highly available, performant distributed applications for web, mobile and business platforms.
• Provide direct engineering support to ensure squad solutions align with the technology area’s strategic direction.
• Ensure smooth transition of technical solutions and knowledge to the wider team.
• Support discovery, architecture and design of new and complex solutions and delivery patterns.
• Work with the Principal Engineer on new patterns, architectural designs, and significant changes to existing solutions.
• Support architecture decisions and solution design across integrated technology disciplines.
• Contribute to technical development and innovation through solution design and R&D activities.
• Develop technical skills within the squad through knowledge transfer of emerging technologies and modern working practices.
• Ensure architectural solutions comply with applicable control standards.
• Define change-specific non-functional requirements as part of solution design and architecture decisions.
• Align solutions with the change and priority pipeline, managing priorities and escalating risks.
• Support the full development cycle of solution designs, including testing.
• Identify efficiencies in processes, solutions, and technology.
• Support the Engineering Manager and Principal Engineer by owning delegated areas of the technical domain.
• Apply risk considerations and full-stack security considerations to solution and architecture decisions.

Requirements

• Proven experience and background working within a development environment for the technology area.
• Previous experience delivering change to business critical, highly available customer facing platforms.
• A broad technical background, with proven experience supporting diverse technical integrations.
• Experience supporting the delivery of change across the full project lifecycle from initiation to live support.
• Experience delivering successful change through different methodologies including agile and waterfall.
• Experience delivering CI/CD change into cloud-based environments.
• Proven experience working autonomously and owning assigned project deliverables.
• Excellent time management and prioritisation.
• Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to communicate to all levels.
• Distributed Systems and architectural experience of microservices, event driven architectures and serverless.
• AWS Cloud including step functions, lambda and general AWS architecture.
• Expertise in DevOps and containers environments including Kubernetes.
• Java Development including Domain Driven Design, Test Driven Development and tech training presentation skills.
• Kafka, Mongo, Elastic Search and Redis.
• The whole Spring ecosystem including Spring Boot, Spring Cloud AWS, Spring Data, Spring Cloud Streams.

Core Competencies

Demonstrates expertise in designing and supporting scalable distributed applications, with a strong focus on AWS Cloud architecture, DevOps practices, and full project lifecycle management.
