Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior engineering leader to head a growing, multidisciplinary team in London. You will report to the CTO, translating strategy into clear priorities and driving reliable delivery across engineering, testing and operations.

You will combine hands-on technical credibility with strong coaching, stakeholder engagement and a focus on scalable, observable production services in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Strong track record of coaching engineers, managing performance and building effective teams.
Experience in betting or gaming industry.
Hands-on with Java Spring and Kafka.
Experience with cloud-native development; AWS, Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of scalable, resilient production services and observability.
Understanding AI-assisted engineering risks including security and privacy.
Experience with REST APIs and RDBMS technologies (PostgreSQL).
Proficient in GitLab, Jira and Confluence; agile methods.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement; ability to work with C-level.
Ability to lead remote teams and fast-paced environments.

Job description

Lead a small but growing multidisciplinary team of engineers, testers and infrastructure specialists
Report to the CTO and take responsibility for team performance, development and delivery
Translate technical and product strategy into clear priorities, engineering decisions and reliable outcomes
Provide technical direction, resolve complex problems and contribute to architectural and technology decisions
Ensure the platform is designed, built, delivered and operated for scalability, performance, resilience, deployability and integration
Build an inclusive, accountable and high-performing engineering culture
Ensure solutions support long-term growth and company strategy
Enable delivery of partner- and operations-focused solutions
Foster accountability for testing quality and improve testing frequency, effectiveness and efficiency
Use delivery and operational data to identify constraints and improve engineering processes
Maintain up-to-date technical and use-case documentation
Lead structured experimentation with AI-assisted engineering tools and establish guardrails
Collaborate with product, operations, senior leadership and external partners
Improve delivery predictability, architecture, testing, observability, documentation and operational support

Requirements

Strong track record of coaching engineers, managing performance and building effective teams
Significant experience working in the betting or gaming industry
Strong hands‑on experience with Java Spring and Kafka
Experience with cloud‑native development; AWS, Docker and Kubernetes ideally
Knowledge of engineering practices for scalable, resilient and observable production services
Understanding of risks associated with AI‑assisted engineering, including security, data privacy, intellectual property, accuracy, maintainability and over‑reliance on generated output
Comfortable with RDBMS technologies, preferably PostgreSQL
Experience with REST APIs
In‑depth knowledge of software version control systems, preferably GitLab
Extensive experience with JIRA, Confluence and similar tools
Demonstrable experience of Agile methodologies
Experience working with technical teams across remote locations
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment and quickly learn new skill sets
Confidence engaging partners and key stakeholders up to C‑level
Attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong technical credibility, with willingness to work directly with code and systems when valuable
